About Allen

Allen Lambert LCSW-S After working for ten years in Mental Health, I returned to my Alma Mater to obtain my Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) degree at the University of Texas at Austin in 2000. I was trained at the University of Texas Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) alongside psychologists pursing their final internship before completing their PhD or PsyD. After graduation, I was hired by the CMHC and became a Senior Staff Psychotherapist. Therapy services I provided at the UT CMHC involved assessing, diagnosing, and treating a diverse student population ranging from 17 to 60 years old, and I also led several groups at the CMCH including the “Don’t Worry Group” for people with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, the Gay and Bi-Sexual Men’s Support Group, and several general therapy groups. At CMHC, I also trained Social Work interns, Psychology interns, and Psychology practicum students in their internships. I created a first-of-its-kind interactive stress management web site for the CMHC called “Stress Recess.” While I had been working full-time at the CMHC, I also worked at Waterloo Counseling Center – a non-profit counseling center focusing primarily on the needs of the LGBTQ community in Austin, Texas. I worked part-time as a Senior Psychotherapist at Waterloo for 4 years before deciding to open my private practice part-time in January, 2006. When I left the UT CMHC, I became a Staff Psychotherapist at the Veteran’s Administration Outpatient Mental Health Clinic in Austin, Texas. In addition to providing individual psychotherapy,  I also led several groups at the VA OPC including Anger Management, Stress Management, and a therapy group for depressed veterans. The work was also very rewarding, however having spent the last 9 years working 60 hours a week in both full-time and part-time work, I decided to take the recommendation I have often given to my clients to “slow down” to take care of myself. I left the VA OPC to pursue full-time private practice in Austin, Texas in June, 2010. SEO by Ned4short
