Men who have grown up in the United States have received messages all of their life that they should not feel sad, but that they should feel angry. That’s one reason why men typically have more issues with their expression of anger, and women typically have more issues with depression (they got the opposite message!) There is absolutely nothing wrong with being angry, and many times our anger is there to tell us something is wrong that needs to be changed.
While at the Veteran’s Administration, I worked with many, many Veterans who had issues with anger and their expression of their anger, and I am convinced that everyone can learn to manage their anger, and other emotions, in ways that don’t alienate others or get them into trouble.
Other issues men often struggle with are Grief, Sexual Health, Physical Health, Relationships, and Parenting.
